About the shop
The Veterinary Hospital of Virginia Beach practises on Virginia Beach Boulevard, seeing dogs and cats from across the city. Most of what a veterinary practice does is unglamorous and enormously important: the vaccine that prevents the illness, the dental cleaning that adds years, the annual exam where something gets caught early enough to matter.
The rest of it is the part nobody plans for. The limp that appeared overnight. The cat that has stopped eating. The dog that got into something in the yard. Having a practice that knows your animal's history already, and that you can reach without a two-week wait, is the difference between a manageable problem and an emergency.
What we do
- Wellness exams
- The annual visit where weight, teeth, joints, heart and skin all get checked. Most of what shortens a pet's life is treatable if it is found early.
- Vaccinations
- Core and lifestyle vaccines appropriate to the animal, its age, and how it actually lives — a dog at the dog park has different exposure than one that does not.
- Dental care
- Cleaning and extractions under anaesthesia. Dental disease is one of the most common and most under-treated conditions in both dogs and cats.
- Surgery
- Routine and soft-tissue procedures, with the pre-operative work-up that makes anaesthesia safer.
- Diagnostics
- Bloodwork and imaging to find out what is actually wrong rather than treating a guess.
- Sick visits
- The unplanned appointment. Vomiting, limping, not eating, or simply not behaving like themselves.

What the animal is doing, when it started, and what has changed. That conversation decides how urgently you need to be seen.
Examination
A physical exam first, then diagnostics if they are needed. You are told what is being looked for and why before anything is run.
A plan you understand
Findings explained in plain language, with the options and what each involves, so the decision is yours and it is an informed one.

Do you take new patients?

My pet is sick right now. What do I do?
Call and describe the symptoms. Severe breathing difficulty, suspected poisoning, seizures, bloating, or trauma need immediate attention — say so on the phone.
How often does a healthy pet need to be seen?
Annually for most adult animals, and more often for puppies, kittens and seniors. Ageing happens fast enough in dogs and cats that a year is a long gap.
Does my pet really need a dental?
If there is tartar, bad breath or red gums, then almost certainly. Untreated dental disease is painful and affects more than the mouth.
Can you send records to another vet?
Yes. Call and ask — records transfer between practices routinely.
